When Johanna of Andover Mums invited me to photograph her style consultation with Aricia Symes-Elmer of Shift Your Style I thought it sounded like a lot of fun, and I figured I might learn a few things too, so of course I agreed.
Honestly, I’d heard of Shift Your Style and had thought about contacting Aricia in the past, because while I may have an eye for photography, I’m a bit clueless when it comes to putting an outfit together. I’m probably like a lot of people, in that I have a closet packed with stuff, yet (in my eyes) nothing to wear — I get overwhemed so I go back to the same five or so “safe” outfits or just throw on jeans. However, I never did set up that appointment with Aricia, because at the same time I could use somehelp, the thought of a stranger coming into my house and going through my closet of mismatched items was a little scary.
As soon as I met Aricia, I knew that this process was not scary at all. In fact it was fun! She’s super nice, with a warm smile and a killer sense of fashion. Next worry was, hmm … she can pull off anything, and I certainly can’t. Does she try to turn her clients into total fashionistas? Nope not at all! First thing Aricia did was sit down with Johanna and talk to her about her life — where she goes, what she does, and what kind of clothing does she need? Aricia took notes, and asked tons of questions so that she could help Johanna put together outfits that fit ner needs and her life.
Next up, she went through Johanna’s current closet, including shoes and accessories and pulled out lots of items that she could work with. She also took measurements and gave a few initial tips on flattering shapes.

Now for the fun part — Aricia pulled together outfits with what Johanna already had in her closet. Things Johanna might never have put together herself!
And I think you’ll agree, she looked great!
As a follow-up to the appointment, Arica also provided a book filled with style tips, and suggestions for things Johanna should add to her wardrobe. She even suggests brands and stores. (Or, Aricia and her team will do the shopping themselves and bring the items to you!)
Now I’m looking forward to my own consult in a few months, and can’t wait so see what Aricia can do with the hodgepodge of items in my closet!
